Established in 2023 and designed by Mitch and Ashleigh Johnstone, both of whom are parents, educators, coaches and sports lovers, Little Playmakers Sports is a new concept that aims to provide pre-school children with the best possible introduction to a range of mainstream ball sports. We provide a curriculum linked, differentiated program that provides an entry point for all children, no matter what their current skill level or understanding of a sport is.
We have a greater emphasis on exploratory play, interaction between participants, teaching fundamental skills properly, and providing game sense opportunities to further develop children’s relationship with a range of ball sports. We also have a focus on using video feedback as well as minimising downtime within sessions to maximise outcomes. Finally, we offer greater flexibility than our competitors, with no joining fee and the ability to make casual bookings to acknowledge the greater time pressures and choices that modern families have.
Our coaches all have up to date Police checks, including a ‘Working with Children’ check. Our coaches also have a Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration and up to date First Aid qualifications.

He also has extensive experience in development and pathways for young athletes and has a private Cricket coaching business that has afforded him the opportunity to work with over 200 players of all ages and backgrounds. Mitch is equally passionate about Australian Rules Football, having coached junior football for close to a decade with a great deal of success. Mitch has been a Leading Teacher for seven years at a government school in Caroline Springs and has a passion for learning and working with children. He has also created and hosted a coaching podcast titled 'Coaching in Clubland' (found on Spotify and Apple Podcasts), where he got to speak to some of the best Cricket, Australian Rules Football, Soccer, Basketball and Netball coaches around the world.
